Mobile Advertising is "more profitable", says Google Chief

According to Eric Schmidt, the Chairman/ CEO of Google Inc., advertising on mobile devices is more effective and profitable compared to advertising on traditional PCs. "The reason is that," he says, "more targeted ads are more valuable to the advertisers".

He stressed that new-generation of smartphones are the "defining new category" for the industry, because of how powerful these devices are, the variety of activities you can do on them, and the information that is available right at your fingertips. And to top it all, he quipped, "Oh, by the way, you can talk on it too!"

With over 75,000 apps in the Apple App Store, and mobile applications enabling everything from a rich shopping experience on the go to a dynamic event guide in your pocket, it's hard not to believe him. Advertising on mobile devices is definitely the next big thing, and Google says it's so.

Eric Schmidt discussed the importance of smartphones to business while speaking to Michelle Fleury of the BBC, on a television interview. He also expressed his belief that the global economy is on the mend and "the worst is behind us". You can watch the complete interview below.
