Unifying Content Management with CMIS

The Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) precept is an effort by the CMS industry experts to integrate and share data residing in multiple data repositories and ECM environments. The original proposition dates back in 2006 when EMC, IBM and Microsoft showcased their idea about the same.

The purpose of a CMIS is to build a common web service interface that will permit organizations to adopt unified content management architecture for data access and management purpose. The aim lies in designing an interface to enable exchange of enterprise content irrespective of whether it resides on an IBM, EMC, Oracle, Microsoft, SAP or other content management system.
