Microsoft Office 2010: No Current Plans For iPad

Microsoft has no current plans to adapt Microsoft Office 2010 for the iPad, the president of Microsoft’s business division, Stephen Elop has claimed. He said that they will first observe how the iPad performs and then take a decision in this regard. The business version of Office 2010 will be available from May 12, and a consumer edition will be released in late June.

Office 2010 will include web-based versions of Excel, Word, OneNote and PowerPoint, that can be accessed online for a monthly fee, rather than downloading the software onto computers. Trimmer versions of Word and Excel will also be available for free, to compete with Google Docs. Microsoft’s decision to not be involved closely follows Google’s announcement to support the iPad.
