Client: Online retailer of Premium Cigars
Famous Smoke website is an online shop which features Cohiba cigars, Macanudo cigars and all other major cigar brands. The client wanted to change the User Interface and the functionalities of their website into Flex. They also required a search application for their website. This search would enable the visitors or buyers to view the details of each individual product. The application had to be developed in a way that would enable the visitors to refine their search results based on various categories. Provision for a shopping cart was also mandatory so that buyers could purchase products online.
The web service and the design for the search application were provided by the client. Based on these inputs, and in accordance with the client's specifications, Web Spiders proposed and developed a Flex-based platform through which Famous Smoke's website could be managed.
The search application was developed in a way that provided various product search categories like:
- Price Range
- Package Type
- Cigar Shape
- Ring Size
- Country of Origin
- Wrapper Color
- Special Attributes
- Customer Rating
The buyers can refine the search by choosing from these categories. The application also provides users the option to view the particulars of specific products, add or remove products from the shopping cart and view its details, and also compare multiple products.
When the site is opened for the first time, XML files are loaded and the entire data is imported to the application. When any item is selected, a unique request is sent to the client's web service. The required information is then returned through XML format.
Another added feature of the website is the "No Refresh" technology, which is one of the in-built functionalities of Flex.
