Client: UK based specialist in fancy dress costumes and accessories
Opportunity:
The client is a specialist in fancy dress costumes and accessories that are retailed both from a London store as well as online at www.escapade.co.uk. The existing website had to be redeveloped in order to increase the rate of conversion of the website visitors in to customers. For this, a number of things needed to be incorporated:
- Create a section where visitors can upload their pictures and see themselves in any costume they wish to.
- Create a new type of search which will enable users to find a particular product by typing in the key words, product names, or product details. Customers can also make online payments for their purchases. This methodology is very useful when it comes to the conversion of website visitors to actual customers.
- Develop a new section which will feature a weekly Escapade fancy dress competition which is free for all users. Also, fabulous costumes are given away to the winners of the competition.
Solution:
In keeping with the requirements of the client, Web Spiders developed the “Floating Face Technology” which enables users to upload their images to the site and see themselves in their selected fancy dress costumes and accessories. A new type of “Auto Complete” / “Predictive Search” has been integrated within the search box. This will allow users to search for specific products. The Predictive Search has been built based on Microsoft strategy. Also, the online payment process and the weekly competition section have been developed.
Apart from this, Web Spiders has also worked on other features of the site, which involves:
- Migration of data from the existing site.
- Insertion of data and sending orders to third parties like Smiffys & NPOS.
- Bulk import/ export which will help change the selected data immediately.
- Providing RSS feed for each and every product.
- Search Engine Optimization of the site.
The site has been incorporated with extensive use of AJAX to reduce the time taken by page loading for modules likes product page navigation, login, registration process and online payment. The AJAX application has also been used in the incorporation of sections like Product Review, Customs Product Gallery and Star Rating.
